One Wordle a day is a nice little puzzle. Four at once – where every guess you type goes onto all four boards – is a different beast entirely. Games like Quordle, Dordle and Octordle ask you to juggle several hidden words with a limited number of guesses, and it’s very easy to lose track.
That’s what Wordle Multi is for. It’s a helper, not a game: you play your multi-board puzzle wherever you normally do, and Wordle Multi keeps track of every board, works out which words still fit, and suggests the guess that helps the most boards at once.
How it works
First, set it up to match your puzzle:
- Boards: choose 2, 4 or 8, depending on the game you’re playing.
- Letters: most games use five-letter words, but Wordle Multi handles anything from 5 to 12 letters.
Then, after each guess in your game:
- Type the word you guessed. It appears on every board at once, just like in the real game.
- Copy the colours onto each board. Tap a tile once for yellow, again for green, and again to go back to grey. Only tap the tiles that came back yellow or green – anything you leave is treated as grey.
- Press Enter. Wordle Multi updates the list of words that still fit on each board, and suggests your next guess.
A few things make this quicker. Once a letter has been green on a board, the tool fills that green in for you on later guesses. And if you press Enter without tapping anything, it checks you really meant “all grey” before accepting it – a common slip for anyone used to a game colouring the tiles for them.
Reading the suggestions
The most useful part is Best guess for every open board. It ranks guesses by how much they’re expected to narrow down all the unsolved boards combined – because in a multi-board game, one guess has to work hard on several words at once.
Next to each suggestion is a row of dots, one for each open board. A filled dot means that word could actually be the answer on that board, so the guess might solve it outright rather than just gather clues.
Each board also gets its own short panel, showing how many words still fit and its own top few guesses. Tap any suggested word to put it straight into the next row.
A four-board example
Here’s a real run through Wordle Multi’s own word lists, with four boards and five-letter words. Wordle’s answer list has 2,375 words, so at the start, every board has 2,375 possibilities.
Guess 1: RAISE. It’s the top opening suggestion when you ask for possible answers only. After entering the colours from each board, here’s how many words still fit:
| What RAISE showed | Words still fitting | |
|---|---|---|
| Board 1 | Green A, yellow I | 14 |
| Board 2 | Green S and E at the end | 20 |
| Board 3 | All grey | 174 |
| Board 4 | Yellow R and A | 79 |
Notice Board 3. Five grey tiles feels like a disaster, but it still cut the list from 2,375 words to 174. Knowing which letters aren’t there is valuable too.
Guess 2: CLOTH. A word packed with fresh, common letters – C, L, O, T and H – that none of the boards has tested yet:
| Words still fitting | |
|---|---|
| Board 1 | 1 – it must be CABIN |
| Board 2 | 1 – it must be THOSE |
| Board 3 | 7 |
| Board 4 | 20 |
After just two guesses, two boards are down to a single word each. Now you can spend your next two guesses solving those for certain, while every one of those guesses also chips away at Boards 3 and 4. That’s the rhythm of a good multi-board game.
Tips for multi-board games
Explore first, solve later. Your first two or three guesses should test as many new, common letters as possible. Trying to solve one board too early wastes guesses the other boards needed.
Solve the “sure things” when they appear. Once a board is down to one word, guess it. It’s a free solve, and the colours it produces on the other boards still give you information.
Watch for boards with a few look-alikes. A board with three or four very similar words left – the ones that differ by a single letter – is the most dangerous. Look for a guess that splits them up, even if it can’t be the answer itself.
Don’t fear an all-grey board. As Board 3 showed, all grey still rules out a huge number of words.
Choose “Any valid word” or “Possible answers only”. With Any valid word, suggestions can include words that can’t be the answer but are great at gathering clues. Possible answers only keeps every suggestion a genuine candidate – closer to how most people like to play, and handy if your game uses a “hard mode”.
If a board says “0 words fit”, check your colours. It almost always means a tile was tapped wrongly. You can tap tiles on earlier rows to fix them, without starting the board again.
What does “bits” mean?
Each suggestion shows a number of “bits”. It’s a measure of how much a guess is expected to tell you. Every extra bit roughly halves the number of words left. So a guess worth 6 bits on a board is expected to cut its list to about a sixty-fourth of the size. In the combined list, the bits for each open board are added together – which is why multi-board totals look bigger.
Questions people ask
Is it free?
Yes, completely. It runs entirely in your browser, and nothing you type is sent anywhere.
Which word list does it use?
For five-letter words, it uses Wordle’s answer list, including every past answer up to September 2026. If nothing on that list fits your clues, it automatically checks the full list of valid guesses. You can switch to the full list yourself under Answer pool. Longer words use a list of common words, with a full dictionary as backup.
Will it remember my boards?
Yes. Your guesses and colours are saved in your browser, so you can come back to them on the same device. Press Clear boards to start a new puzzle.
Isn’t this cheating?
That’s up to you! Plenty of people use it to learn – play your own guesses, then check afterwards what the best move would have been. Others use it to rescue a puzzle when they’re down to their last few guesses.
Is Wordle Multi connected to Wordle or Quordle?
No. It’s an independent helper. Wordle, Quordle, Dordle and Octordle are trademarks of their respective owners.
Over to you
Next time you’re juggling four boards, open Wordle Multi alongside it and let it keep track. If you only have one board to solve, Wordle Sleuth does the same job for a single puzzle.
Happy solving!
